Welcome to Noctule
defininition : NOCTULE n largest British kind of bat
Noctule
first took flight (parden
the pun) in the summer of 1999, and it was that autumn that we first 'took
roost' at the Whitby Gothic Weekend's Bizarre Bizaar as well as trading at
the Whitby Dracula Society's Halloween event. Having thoroughly enjoyed the
experience I felt thus inspired to make 'Noctule' have a more permanent home
and the hunt began to find some suitable premises. That was easier said than
done, everything was too big or too small or too expensive or in the wrong
place! It took a whole year to finally secure the right location, and after
a quick renovation and substantial change of colour scheme, Noctule - Gothic
& Alternative Clothing Emporium finally opened it's doors for the first
time on Saturday 24th February 2001.
Since opening the shop we have carried on with our market stalls at many UK gothic events, such as W.G.W, Morecambe Gothic Festival / Dance Of The Vampires, Carnival Of Souls and Malediction '04, as well as Witchfest, varying motorcycle rallies and historical re-enactment events which reflect our other interests outside the Goth scene. We also decided to branch out into a mail order service to aid those who love our market stalls but can't make it through to York very often. Our online mail order cataloge first appeared in July '03 and is constantly being updated with new additions and ranges appearing all the time.
'Noctule's' main aim has always been to be a Gothic shop ran by Goths for Goths. We feel that as longterm active members of the scene we will be best placed to understand what product our customers want. Check out our entry on NetGoth to find out what our customers think of us.
Who's
Who at 'Noctule'
Noctule is owned and run by Melanie Metcalfe-Thompson, but she couldn't manage without the help of her indispenable husband Mathew (DJ Von Suhl at Eating The Elephant, Hull) Special thanks go to Mathew for building and maintaining the website.
